Until late August 2026 you couldn't legally buy one of these. Now they're turning up next to the power drills. Here's who is selling plug-in solar in the UK, what they charge, and how to avoid buying a dud.
Which shops sell plug-in solar right now?
Which? checked in September 2026 and found a handful. Screwfix had the PowerXpress two-panel kit at £669. UKSOL kits, also sold online at Argos, started at £599 for one panel and £899 for two. City Plumbing sold kits too, and one two-panel kit was listed at £456. Octopus Energy sold a one-panel bundle at £450 and a two-panel bundle at £650. PatioSun, Perlight and Thunder Energy sold kits online too.
Is Lidl selling plug-in solar panels?
Not yet, as far as we can tell. In March 2026 the government named Lidl as one of the shops that planned to sell plug-in solar. That's why so many people are searching for it. But when we checked at the start of October 2026, we couldn't find a Lidl kit on sale in the UK, or an official price. If one lands in the middle aisle, the checks below still apply.
What about Aldi, Amazon and the rest?
We couldn't find any announcement from Aldi. Which? reports that Amazon, Currys and Wickes are expected to stock kits. Be careful with online marketplaces. A kit made for Germany or elsewhere may not have the right UK plug or the right UK test. If it isn't on the UK register, it isn't a legal kit here, however cheap it is.
How long will you wait for delivery?
It varies. Some shops have stock on the shelf. Others are taking orders for later. Octopus, for example, told people who ordered after 28 September 2026 to expect their kit by the end of November. If you want to catch what's left of the sun this year, ask about delivery before you pay.
What should you check before you buy?
Three things. First, look up the exact model on the ENA register and make sure it's listed as compliant. Second, check the box has a real mount, not just straps. Third, check the label tells you to register the kit with your network operator. Our guide to approved kits walks through each one.
What's a fair price?
For one panel, about £450 to £600. For two panels, about £456 to £899. That's a wide gap for kits that are capped at the same 800 watts. Paying more doesn't make more power than the cap allows. It does make your payback longer. Our guide to whether plug-in solar is worth it shows the sums for each price.
